SC Forest District Mountain Goat Winter Ranges (MGWR)

Mountain goat winter ranges are forested stands that provide the goats with food and shelter under any winter conditions. The winter ranges are typically occupied while the female goats are pregnant or nursing young. Without winter range protection, this iconic species would disappear. Fortunately, the Province has recently protected nearly 47,000 hectares as MGWR. These lands also contribute to much needed general biodiversity protection.
