Seniors For Climate
Seniors For Climate is a new national organization of Canadian seniors who are alarmed at the tepid pace that our respective governments, at all levels, are addressing the climate crisis. Seniors for Climate has chosen October 1st, Canada’s National Seniors’ Day and the International Day of Older Persons to launch its inaugural presence on the national stage.
The goal of Seniors for Climate is to mobilize Canada’s seniors, who are now 25% of our population and the most significant voting block across the country, to use our collective power to insist that all of our governments substantially step up the pace to both address the root cause of climate change – the burning of fossil fuels – and mitigate the increasingly devastating and costly impacts of climate change – extreme weather events, melting ice fields and rising sea levels and adverse health outcomes.Â
The motto of Seniors for Climate is Later Is Too Late! The graphic image asks the question “What kind of world will we leave our grandchildren and their children?” Seniors For Climate intends to help answer and address that question. As of mid-September there are already over 75 Seniors For Climate events planned across Canada!

Seniors for Climate Pledge
I share a vision of possibility, a hopeful look forward to what our share
d planet could become. I will help to make common cause for the common good.
I will celebrate the beauty of the natural world. All of us depend on it and need
to share its abundance equally.
I understand that climate breakdown affects us all. And I commit to protecting all of us from this threat. This includes all living things that share our Earth.
In pledging support to future generations, I recognize the debt we owe to Indigenous wisdom:Â the decisions we make today must assure a better future for the seven generations that will come after us. I will bring my skills, compassion and resources to join with others in a movement for environmental justice. I pledge to use my voice and my vote to protect future generations.
