Back in February, we invited our community to attend the first public workshop for the District of Sechelt’s Official Community Plan (OCP) update—a chance to help shape how Sechelt grows, protects nature, and responds to climate change. If you missed that post, you can read it here:
The Future of Sechelt: Your Opportunity to Shape the OCP
Now, the District of Sechelt has released a summary of what came out of that first workshop. The “What We Heard” report highlights a shared community vision rooted in environmental protection, affordable and diverse housing, walkability, vibrant gathering places, and more meaningful civic engagement. You can read the full summary here:
The OCP is the long-term plan that guides how Sechelt manages land use, development, transportation, and environmental protection. From our perspective at the SCCA, it’s promising to see strong public support for sustainability, ecosystem protection, and climate resilience. But this is only the beginning. The next phase will shape how these values are—or aren’t—reflected in the policies that guide development and conservation.
Highlights from the first workshop included calls for more affordable housing options, expanded trail networks, vibrant community gathering spaces, and stronger protections for our natural areas.
Make your voice heard—again
The next opportunity to participate in Sechelt’s OCP process is coming up:
Date: Thursday, April 10
Time: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Location: Seaside Centre, Sechelt
This is a drop-in event. Come share your thoughts on housing, transportation, infrastructure, daily needs, and the places you find special. Your input matters—and the more people who speak up for thoughtful, community-rooted planning, the stronger the outcome will be.
Sign up for our eNews and we’ll keep you in the loop about the OCP process and other local conservation issues across the Sunshine Coast.
Together, let’s ensure Sechelt’s future reflects the values of its land, waters, and people.
