Hannah Ack, Campaigns Coordinator
Hi everyone! I’m Hannah, a recent addition to the SCCA team in the role of Campaigns Coordinator. In my role, I’m responsible for supporting and coordinating the SCCA’s conservation, climate, and watershed protection campaigns. Between days out in the field monitoring our protected lands, coordinating and participating in citizen science, advocating for policies grounded in environmental stewardship, engaging with the community, and providing logistical support across the SCCA’s program areas, I’m constantly active and learning something new!
I currently reside in Gibsons and began working with the SCCA shortly after moving to the Sunshine Coast. I love the Coast for its diverse landscapes and immense natural beauty, and for the authentic, funny, artistic, and passionate people who call it home. I feel so grateful to work and play in a place that appreciates slowness and connection and that inspires kids and adults alike to get dirty and get curious about the many cool species we are so lucky to interact with here.
I grew up at the southern tip of the Salish Sea, and have always found great joy splashing around in the sea and running around in the forest. As I’ve grown older and become aware of the various threats to our ecosystems and to a livable planet in general, my awe for the rich web of species that surround me has propelled me to work to protect our incredible biodiversity. I am a geographer by training (and by instinct) so have always loved exploring the interconnections between all beings and the lands and waters that sustain them. I believe the work of the SCCA is so effective because it recognizes this fundamental interconnectedness, drawing on the relationships between people, policy, advocacy, restoration, conservation, and education to safeguard biodiversity and bolster climate resilience.
Conservation work can often feel like an uphill battle, but seeing the positive impact our work has on the natural places I find joy in— and connecting with like-minded people in the process— makes the rigorous work of conservation joyful at the same time. I’m excited to see how my role evolves in 2026 and am really looking forward to the wonderful people I’ll meet in the coming year(s) as we work together to steward this beautiful region! Best wishes for a happy new year.
