The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) will be holding a private cultural ceremony on their Che’kw’elp Reserve land in Gibsons, near the mouth of Ch’ḵw’elhp-Gibson Creek, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
We know that community members occasionally walk through the Squamish Nation reserve lands to reach the beach and often gather on the beach near the estuary.
We ask that the public please use public access points such as Armour’s Beach and avoid the estuary area on Sunday, so the Nation can hold this ceremony with the privacy it deserves.
This ceremony is taking place as part of an ongoing fish passage and habitat restoration partnership, work that remains grounded in relationship, culture, and shared care for the watershed and the salmon that depend on it.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions, please reach out to me directly at executive@thescca.ca
