Fish Tail Beach Forage Fish Sampling – Sandy Hook

Beneath the sand at Fish Hook Beach lies a hidden world that helps sustain salmon, seabirds, marine mammals, and healthy coastal ecosystems.
Join Sunshine Coast Friends of Forage Fish for a hands-on community science experience and learn how to identify and sample spawning habitat used by surf smelt and Pacific sand lance. These small forage fish play a vital role in the marine food web, yet many people walk past their spawning beaches without ever knowing they are there.
Participants will learn about forage fish ecology, shoreline stewardship, and how community volunteers are helping monitor and protect critical spawning habitat throughout the Sunshine Coast.
No experience is necessary. Training and equipment will be provided.
