It All Starts with a Survey: Help Shape the Future of Parks, Recreation, and Culture in Sechelt

The District of Sechelt is seeking input on parks, recreation, and culture.

They are developing a Community Services, Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan to guide the prioritization and development of parks, recreation facilities, cultural spaces, and programs over the coming years.

Sunshine Coasters can provide input on the plan through a community survey until March 7, 2026.

Whether you are a Sechelt resident or a non-resident user of Sechelt parks, recreation, and cultural facilities and programs, your feedback is important in shaping the future of our community.

What the Survey Covers

The survey takes approximately ten minutes to complete. It includes questions about your satisfaction with current facilities and programs, your priorities for improvement, and any barriers you face in accessing parks, recreation, and culture activities.

You’ll be asked to rate and rank priorities for:

  • Outdoor recreation facilities and parks
  • Indoor recreation and culture facilities
  • Programs and events
  • Services for different population groups

There’s also space to share specific input on your experience with current parks, recreation, and culture facilities, as well as thoughts on improvements you’d like to see.

Why It Matters

Your voice matters in shaping the plans for our parks, recreation, and cultural spaces.

At the SCCA, we share surveys and write blog posts like this because they are practical advocacy tools—simple, direct ways for community members to speak up for conservation in decisions that affect our land, water, and wildlife.

For nature lovers and conservation-minded residents, this survey is a chance to champion the natural spaces and low-impact recreation opportunities that connect us to the ecosystems that sustain life on the Sunshine Coast. Trails, pathways, parks, and nature-based programs don’t just support our wellbeing. They help build a culture of stewardship, where people understand, value, and protect the places they use.

When you fill out the survey, you’re doing more than giving feedback – you’re helping shape a future where conservation comes first, access to nature is protected, and community planning strengthens the health of our forests, watersheds, and oceans.

How to Participate

Online Survey: The survey is available now on the District of Sechelt’s website and will remain open until March 7, 2026.

In-Person Engagement: The District plans to host a variety of pop-up engagement stations on March 3rd, 4th, and 7th, 2026, for those who prefer to provide feedback in person.

More information about these pop-up engagements is available on the District’s website, which also invites residents to provide their feedback directly to the consultant team via email if no other engagement methods are accessible.

Make Your Voice Heard

Access to parks, recreation, and cultural spaces and programs is essential to the quality of life in our community, and to the health of the ecosystems that sustain us.

This is your chance to speak up for natural areas, highlight which programs and services you value most, which are lacking, and where improvements are needed. Whether you want to see more parks and green spaces, trail networks, low-impact recreation opportunities, or expanded outdoor and nature-based programming, your input can help shape the SCRD’s priorities for years to come.
