Old Site: Join us for our third annual Oceans Day celebration!

The SCCA is pleased to be partnering again with the District of Sechelt to present the third annual SECHELT OCEANS DAY!

Saturday, June 8th, 12 – 4 pm
Friendship Park – where Wharf Ave meets the Ocean

Enjoy an afternoon of FREE family fun featuring ocean-themed activities and games on the downtown Sechelt waterfront. Pick up your Oceans Day Passport at our info booth, and gain stamps at each activity for your chance to win prizes!

Here’s some of what we have in store for you:

OPENING CEREMONIES: 12 pm

Live Music with the Knotty Dotters Marimba Band: 12:30 – 1 pm

Chalk-It-Up on the Wharf: 12 – 4 pm
Kids – pick up your chalk art kit and decorate the wharf with a collaborative ocean ecosystem mural! Pose for a picture with your completed masterpiece for a chance to win prizes, and be featured in our Oceans Day picture gallery.

Sechelt by the Seashore Scavenger Hunt: 12 – 4 pm
Get a team of friends or family together, and enter the scavenger hunt contest at our Oceans Day booth! Figure out the riddles to work your way through our fun and fantastic mystery tour of sea-related art, artifacts and features of Sechelt. The more riddles you solve, the more stamps you get in your Oceans Day Passport for better chances to win prizes!

Beach Seine: 1:30 pm
Join Fisheries and Oceans Canada Community Advisor Dave Davies to use a seine net to look for young salmon who are migrating now from the rivers to the ocean!

Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup – 2 – 3 pm
New this year: two locations to choose from!

  • Sechelt waterfront: Be a part of our third annual shoreline cleanup! Some gloves, picker-up’ers, garbage bags and buckets provided. Register online today, or just drop by!
  • SUP-Supported Porpoise Bay Cleanup: Join Halfmoon Sea Kayaks to try out a Stand-Up Paddleboard AND do your part to clean the beach at the same time!
