DESCRIPTION:Local Elections\nOn Saturday\, October 17\, 2026\, voters across British Columbia will elect local government councils and regional district boards to govern for the next four years. \nLocal governments make decisions that directly affect our communities and natural environment\, including land use\, water\, transportation\, development\, climate resilience and the protection of ecosystems. \nEngaging Candidates\nThis year\, the SCCA is organizing three environmental all-candidates meetings for candidates seeking election to the Town of Gibsons\, District of Sechelt\, and Sunshine Coast Regional District. These meetings will give community members an opportunity to learn more about candidates’ priorities and approaches to the environmental challenges facing the Sunshine Coast.  \nThe official nomination period runs from September 1–11\, 2026. Candidate information for Gibsons\, Sechelt and the SCRD will be added as it becomes available through the respective local governments. \n  \nTown of Gibsons All-Candidates Meeting\nMonday\, October 5\, 2026\nDoors open at 6:00 p.m.\nMeeting from 6:30–8:00 p.m. \nRoyal Canadian Legion Branch 109\n747 Gibsons Way\nGibsons\, BC \n  \nWe encourage all residents to participate in the democratic process\, learn where candidates stand and consider how local decisions will affect our communities\, future generations\, and the natural systems upon which we all depend. \nGeneral Voting Day: Saturday\, October 17\, 2026 \nPlease save the date and check back– additional information about the meeting format\, participating candidates\, and opportunities to submit questions will be shared as details are confirmed.
