Stillwater Bluffs, south of Powell River, is one of the top five sites earmarked as priorities for parks acquisition by the Powell River Regional District. Friends of Stillwater Bluffs and the Ancient Forest Alliance, recently held a press conference at the Sooke Potholes where they called on the BC government to form a land acquisition fund dedicated to protecting parkland.

Friends of Stillwater Bluffs have launched a petition calling for a 5-year moratorium on commercial logging in the area, while they investigate avenues to purchase cutblock DL3040 from Island Timberlands Ltd. The group has also published The Case for Retaining DL 3040 in its Entirety Undisturbed.

The Future of Howe Sound Society has send a submission to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency in response to their request for public comment on the proposed Burnco Aggregate Mine Project at McNab Creek.

This proposal for a rock and gravel quarry has significant implications for the Howe Sound ecosystem and raises long-term planning issues for all users and stakeholders in the Howe Sound region.

On June 12, 2011 a public grand opening was held for a new shelter hut on Manzanita Bluff, constructed by the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society (PRPAWS ) on the Sunshine Coast Trail

Earth GuardiansThe Town of Gibsons is now receiving comments from the public on the draft Gospel Rock Neighbourhood Plan. Your written comments to the Town are critical for achieving a positive outcome to the planning process.

The SCCA has written a summary of our Recommendations for fixing the plan.
 
Also, Town of Gibsons's development consultant Michael Rosen will be presenting the results of comments received about the April 6 public information meeting at the Town's regular council meeting on April 19.
